The authors use small cancellation methods to prove the following version of Rips' construction. Theorem. Let \(H\) be a non-elementary hyperbolic group, \(Q\) a finitely generated group, \(S\) a subgroup of \(Q\) such that \(Q\) is finitely presented with respect to \(S\). Then there exists a short exact sequence \[ 1\to N\to G@>\varepsilon>>Q\to 1 \] and an embedding \(i\colon S\to Q\) such that (a) \(N\) is isomorphic to a quotient group of \(H\); (b) \(G\) is hyperbolic relative to the proper subgroup \(i(S)\); (c) \(i\circ\varepsilon\equiv\text{id}\); (d) if \(H\) and \(Q\) are torsion free, then so is \(G\); (e) the canonical map \(\varphi\colon Q\to\text{Out}(N)\) is injective and \(|\text{Out}(N):\varphi(Q)|<\infty\). The methods developed in the paper allow to generalize the results of \textit{Y. Ollivier} and \textit{D. T. Wise} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 359, No. 5, 1959-1976 (2007; Zbl 1176.20031)] to the case of finitely generated groups: any finitely generated group \(Q\) can be embedded as a finite index subgroup into \(\text{Out}(N)\) for some group \(N\) with Kazhdan property (T).
