    Die Keilschrifttafel BM 34568 aus der Seleukidenzeit enthält als erstes Problem die Aufgabe, die Diagonale eines Rechtecks aus den Seitenlängen zu bestimmen. Zwei verschiedene Lösungswege werden angeboten, und zwar nicht, wie üblich, Rückgriffe auf den Satz des Pythagoras, sondern jeweils eine lineare Relation. Verf. präsentiert zwei Vorschläge, woher diese ungewöhnlichen Lösungsansätze stammen könnten.
