The authors discuss the Picard-Fuchs equations of normal functions associated to families of higher Chow cycles, and show that these equations are sensitive to the field of definition of a given family. For a family of \(K3\) surfaces, the corresponding non-linear ODE turns out to be similar to Chazy's equation.
