Pierre Hérigone was one of the 17th century followers of François Viète in the process of algebraization, i.e. mainly in establishing a formalized language for the notation of mathematical equations and geometrical problems. The author analyses via detailled examples the ``Algebra'' part of Hérigone's 6-volume ``Cursus mathematicus'' (Paris 1634 ff.), explaining the notational modifications and the methodological progress over Viète in presenting mathematical problems, results, and proofs.
