Norm inequalities in operator ideals (Q960544): Difference between revisions

A norm on an ideal \({\mathcal I}\) of the \(C^*\)-algebra \(B(H)\) is called unitarily invariant if \(\| UXV\| = \| X\| \) for all \(X \in {\mathcal I}\) and unitary operators \(U, V \in B(H)\). The author introduces a new technique concerning the inequality \(\| Z \pm iXZ\| \geq \| Z\|\) (\(X\in B(H)_h\), \(Z\in B(H)\)) for proving norm inequalities in operator ideals with a unitarily invariant norm. One of the main inequalities is related to entire functions of finite order (with purely imaginary roots) and the Weierstrass factorization theorem; see \textit{K.--H.\thinspace Neeb} [Geom.\ Dedicata 95, 115--156 (2002; Zbl 1027.58003)] and also \textit{H.\,Kosaki} [J.~Funct.\ Anal.\ 254, No.\,1, 84--108 (2008; Zbl 1141.43004)]. The other main inequality concerns meromorphic functions with interlaced (purely imaginary) roots and the Löwner theorem, and from there the author derives several results including exponential metric increasing property, the comparison among various means of operators, the Lipschitz continuity of the absolute value map, and the Löwner-Heinz inequality.
