The author introduces certain generalized \(q\)-Bernstein operators \(B^{q-\alpha}_n(f;x)\) based on the \(q\)-integers, and studies approximation properties of these operators. When \(\alpha=0\), we reobtain \(q\)-Bernstein polynomials introduced by \textit{G. M. Phillips} [On generalized Bernstein polynomials, in: Stancu, Dimitrie D. (ed.) et al., Approximation and optimization. Proceedings of ICAOR: international conference, Cluj-Napoca, Romania, July 29--August 1, 1996. Volume I. Cluj-Napoca: Transilvania Press, 335--340 (1997; Zbl 0884.41005)]. For \(q=1\), we get the Bernstein-Stancu polynomials, introduced by \textit{D. D. Stancu} [Rev. Roum. Math. Pures Appl. 13, 1173--1194 (1968; Zbl 0167.05001)]. When \(q=1\) and \(\alpha=0\), we have the classical Bernstein polynomials.
