Let \(Z\) be a unique factorization domain with field of fractions \(Q\) and let \(f(X)\) be an irreducible polynomial on \(Z[X]\). From two theorems by Capelli [\textit{M. C. R. Butler}, Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. (3) 7, 63--74 (1957; Zbl 0084.02102)] dealing with the irreducibility over \(Q\) of the composition of two polynomials \(h(g(X))\) and of the polynomial \(X^n - a,\;a \in Q\), the author determines a sufficient condition for \(f(X^r)\;(r >1)\) to be irreducible over \(Z[X]\). This condition depends only on the degree, the leading coefficient and the nonzero constant term of the polynomial \(f(X)\). Finally the main result is rewritten in a more numerical perspective.
