Let \(A\) and \(B\) be arbitrary (not necessarily bounded) selfadjoint operators on Hilbert space with bounded difference \(A-B\) . The authors prove that, if \(f\) is in the Hölder class \(\Lambda_{\alpha}(\mathbb{R})\) with \(0<\alpha<1\), then the difference \(f(A)-f(B)\) is bounded and \(\|f(A)-f(B)\|\leq \text{const} \|f\|_{\Lambda_{\alpha}(\mathbb{R})}\|A-B\|^{\alpha}\). Also, properties of the operator \(f(A)-f(B)\) are studied when \(A-B\) belongs to the Schatten--von Neumann class. Similar results are considered for unitary operators and contractions.
