The paper under review presents some new methods for the computation of the fixed point index for a cone mapping. The authors employ a positively homogeneous operator and/or functional to give some new method of computation for the fixed point index. They also apply their results to the existence of positive solutions for a fourth-order boundary value problem both in scale spaces and in abstract spaces.
