The authors derive convergence estimates for a Schwarz iteration method with Robin transmission conditions that holds for subdomains of very general shapes. The results are not meant to provide accurate formulas for the optimal Robin parameters for such general shapes, but they provide asymptotic upper bounds for the convergence factor. Here two different types of Robin transmission conditions are considered in the Schwarz iteration: the first one leads to the best estimate when \(h\) is small, whereas for the second type, a convergence estimate is derived, which is inversely proportional to the jump in the coefficient. Numerical experiments are carried out to confirm the theoretical results.
