The authors consider a bijection \(\Phi:\mathcal{A}\to\mathcal{B}\), where \(\mathcal{A}\), \(\mathcal{B}\) are two von Neumann factors, such that \[ \Phi(ab-ba^*)=\Phi(a)\Phi(b)-\Phi(b)\Phi(a)^* \] for all \(a,b\in\mathcal{A}\). Under this condition, with no linearity assumed, the map \(\Phi\) is shown to be a *-isomorphism.
