Let \(I \mapsto I_c\) be an operation on the set of ideals \(\mathcal J\) of a ring \(R\) and let \(b\) be a regular element. Set (a) \(I \subseteq I_c\); (b) if \(I \subseteq J\), then \(I_c \subseteq J_c\); (c) \((I_c)_c = I_c\); (d) \(I_cJ_c \subseteq (IJ)_c\); (e) \((bI)_c = bI_c.\) An operation that satisfies (a)-(c) is called a \textit{closure} operation. If (a)-(d) or (a)-(e) is satisfied, then the operation is called \textit{semiprime} or \textit{prime}, respectively. Let \(C_R\), \(S_R\), and \(P_R\) be the sets of maps on \(\mathcal J\) to itself which are closure, semiprime, and prime operations, respectively. The author investigates the algebraic structure of these partially ordered sets. In particular, the author shows that \(P_R\) is a monoid, but \(C_R\) is not, even in the case that \(R\) is a discrete valuation ring. When \(R\) is a Dedekind domain or a discrete valuation ring, the set \(S_R\) is shown to be the union of two submonoids on the set of maps on \(\mathcal J\). Lastly, a detailed study of the closure, semiprime, and prime operations on the local ring \(k[[t^2, t^3]]\) is given.
