The paper deals with estimation for the longest common subsequence \(L_n\) of two independent identically distributed sequences of Bernoulli variables of a finite length. It is proved that the order of the standard deviation \(L_n\) is the square root of \(n\). The order of \textit{V. Chvatal} and \textit{D. Sankoff} [J. Appl. Probab. 12, 306--315 (1975; Zbl 0313.60008)] conjecture is different.
