The author studies some properties of an almost paracontact metric manifold \(M\). By defining a canonical paracontact connection on \(M\), it is proved that the torsion of this connection vanishes exactly when the structure is paraSasakian. For the when \(M\) has torsion, the author proves that \(M\) admits a connection with totally skew-symmetric torsion if and only if the Nijenhuis tensor of the paracontact structure is skew-symmetric and the defining vector field is Killing.
