The author studies the 2-fold self-intersection manifold \(\Delta_2(f)\) of a self-transverse immersion \(f\) of a compact smooth \(8k\)-dimensional manifold into Euclidean \((16k-4)\)-space. In this case, \(\Delta_2(f)\) is a compact 4-dimensional manifold for dimensional reasons. The main theorem of this paper is the following: If \(k>1\), then for any such immersion \(f\), its 2-fold self-intersection manifold \(\Delta_2(f)\) is a boundary. For \(k=1\), this theorem is proved by a method slightly different from that of [\textit{P. J. Eccles}, Császár, Á. (ed.), Topology with applications. Proceedings of the 7th colloquium, Szekszárd, Hungary, August 23--27, 1993. Budapest: János Bolyai Mathematical Society. Bolyai Soc. Math. Stud. 4, 197--216 (1993; Zbl 0890.57043)]. Further, the author shows that there exists an immersion of some 8-dimensional manifold into Euclidean 12-space with odd triple points.
