Autoresonant excitation and control of multiphase waves of the sine-Gordon equation is discussed. The autoresonance (a persistent nonlinear phase-locking) is achieved by applying chirped frequency wave-like perturbations and passage through resonances with inactive (dormant) degree of freedom in the system. Successful phase locking requires the amplitude of the driving permutation to exceed a threshold that scales as \(\frac34\) power of the driving frequency chirp rate. The spectral theory of the inverse scattering transform method is used for diagnostics and analysis of the exited solutions.
