The study is devoted to an initial boundary value problem for the strongly damped nonlinear wave equation with memory, the external source being independent of time and the memory kernel \(k(s)\) being a continuous convex nonincreasing function, such that \(h(s)= k(s) - k(\infty)\) is summable. The aim is to prove the existence of exponential attractors. As technique, starting from the equation with memory, one builds a family of dynamical systems depending on a parameter, such that the limiting case for parameter equals zero is the classical strongly damped wave equation. For specific values of the parameter as well as under special assumptions, the existence of exponential attractors is proved.
