A partition is called a \(l\)-core partition if its Ferrers diagram has no hook numbers which are a multiple of \(l\). \(l\)-cores are known to play a significant role in a variety of areas. For example, when \(l\) is prime they characterize \(l\)-modularly irreducible representations of the symmetric group \(S_l\), and at the level of Coxeter groups, cores correspond to minimal length coset representatives for the parabolic quotient \(\widetilde{S}_l/S_l\), where \(\widetilde{S}_l\) denotes the affine symmetric group. In [\textit{C. Berg} and \textit{M. Vazirani}, Electron. J. Comb. 15, No. 1, Research Paper R130, 23 p. (2008; Zbl 1180.05123)], the first and third authors established a bijection between \(l\)-cores with first part equal to \(k\) and \((l-1)\)-cores with first part less than or equal to \(k\), which they used to show that the number of \(l\)-cores with first part equal to \(k\) is \(\binom{k+l-2}{k}\). In the paper under review the authors give several interpretations of that bijection. In the Coxeter setting, the bijection can be seen as a projection from the root lattice of type \(A_{l-1}\) to an embedded copy of the root lattice of type \(A_{l-2}\). The authors also show that the bijection can be described in terms of a bijective correspondence between \(l\)-cores and \((l-1)\)-bounded partitions due to \textit{L. Lapointe} and \textit{J. Morse} [J. Comb. Theory, Ser. A 112, No. 1, 44--81 (2005; Zbl 1120.05093)].
