\textit{F. Polizzi} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 358, No. 2, 759--798 (2006; Zbl 1083.14043)] classified minimal complex surfaces of general type with \(p_g=q=1\) and \(K^2=8\) whose bicanonical map factors through a double covering of a rational surface. In this paper under review it is shown that the bicanonical map of a minimal surface of general type with \(p_g=q=1\) and \(K^2=8\) is either birational or a double covering of a rational surface. Together with Polizzi's result this gives a classification of minimal surfaces of general type with \(p_g=q=1\), \(K^2=8\) and non-birational bicanonical map.
