Let \({\mathbb I}=[0,1]\) denote the unit interval and \(C_\Delta^*({\mathbb I}^2)\) stands for the set of skew-product maps \(F:(x,y)\mapsto(f(x),g(x,y))\) on the unit square \({\mathbb I}^2\), whose base has a closed set of periodic points. The paper investigates the structure of the nonwandering set \(\Omega(F)\) of points for such skew-product maps in \(C_\Delta^*({\mathbb I}^2)\). For every \(F\) and every pair \((x,y)\) with \(x\) periodic of period \(p_x\) and \(y\) not chain recurrent for \(F^{p_x}|_{\{x\}\times{\mathbb I}}\), it is shown that \((x,y)\not\in\Omega(F)\). Moreover, the authors construct a map \(F_0\in C_\Delta^*({\mathbb I}^2)\) with an isolated fixed point \(x_0\) for \(f\) and \(y_0\not\in\Omega(F|_{\{x\}\times{\mathbb I}})\), such that \((x_0,y_0)\in\Omega(F_0)\).
