The author considers vanishing theorems for ``log homogeneous varieties''. These varieties are algebraic varieties which admit a compactification by a divisor such that the logarithmic tangent bundle is spanned by global sections. This class of varieties includes in particular toric varieties, semi-abelian varieties and wonderful (symmetric) varieties. For these varieties vanishing theorems on cohomology are deduced. The main result is the following: Let \(X\) be a log-homogeneous variety and let \(L\) be a nef (resp.~ample) line bundle. Then \(H^i(X,L\otimes\Omega^j_X)=0\) for \(i>j+q+r\) (resp.~\(i>j\)). Here \(q\) denotes the irregularity of \(X\) and \(r\) the codimension of any closed orbit of its automorphism group. If \(X\) is a flag manifold (quotient of a semisimple algebraic group by a parabolic subgroup), then \(q+r=0\) and this result reproduces a vanishing theorem of \textit{B. Broer} [Invent. Math. 113, No. 1, 1--20 (1993; Zbl 0807.14043)], and for toric varieties a result of \textit{A. R. Mavlyutov} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 615, 45--58 (2008; Zbl 1171.14037)].
