The authors study the existence of positive solutions to linear and nonlinear Sturm-Liouville boundary value problems for a second order impulsive ordinary differential equation involving a perturbed \(p\)-Laplacian. Using the Lax-Milgram Lemma the authors study the linear boundary value problem, and then by means sof the critical point theory -- the direct method and the mountain pass approach- the nonlinear one. Using different assumptions they obtain the existence of at least one positive solution and then at least two positive solutions. Examples are given throughout the paper. The approach develops the authors' earlier results, [see, Proc. Edinb. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 51, No.~2, 509--527 (2008; Zbl 1163.34015)].
