The purpose of this paper is to analyze special sets of points in the plane such that the associated Lagrange functions for interpolation with polynomials decompose into linear factors. Therefore such sets satisfy the so-called geometric characterization property and are called \(GC_n\). With this construction there is the so-called defect which is a property of a \(GC_n\) set. Among further results for defects more than three, it is shown that there are no sets of defect four when \(n\) is greater than five.
