Let \(R\) be a ring with identity element, and let \({\mathcal M}od\)-\(R\) be the category of unital right \(R\)-modules. The aim of this paper is to investigate cotorsion pairs and torsion pairs induced by a cotilting right \(R\)-module, briefly called cotilting cotorsion pairs and cotilting torsion pairs, respectively. The relationship between the cotilting cotorsion pairs and the \(\Sigma\)-pure-injectivity of the cotilting module is examined. As a consequence, it is shown that for cotilting modules of injective dimension at most 1 the two notions are equivalent. The authors prove that a faithful torsion pair in \({\mathcal M}od\)-\(R\) is cogenerated by a 1-cotilting \(\Sigma\)-pure-injective right \(R\)-module if and only if its heart is a locally Noetherian Grothendieck category, and in this case the ring \(R\) is necessarily right coherent. The last part of the paper characterizes cotilting torsion pairs for right Noetherian rings induced by \(\Sigma\)-pure-injective cotilting right \(R\)-modules.
