Consider a locally presentable abelian closed symmetric monoidal category with unit such that the monoidal product preserves colimits and finite limits in each variable. Assume it is equipped with two model structures in which the unit is cofibrant, one with all monomorphisms as cofibrations, such that the pushout axiom is satisfied between the two class of cofibrations. Finally, suppose that it admits a coalgebra interval. Then the category of comonoids admits a model structure with weak equivalences (resp. cofibrations) the maps of comonoids such that the underlying map is a weak equivalence (resp. a monomorphism). An example of this situation is the category of unbounded chain complexes of modules over a commutative von Neumann regular ring equipped with the projective and injective model structures.
