In the paper under review, the authors introduce the concepts of restricted Gorenstein dimension and coherent Gorenstein rings which agree with the notions of Gorenstein dimension and Gorenstein rings for Noetherian rings. In particular, they prove the generalization of Auslander-Bridger formula for coherent rings. \textit{M.\ Auslander} and \textit{M.\ Bridger} [Mem.\ Am.\ Math.\ Soc.\ 94, 146 p.\ (1969; Zbl 0204.36402)] introduced the concept of Gorenstein dimension for finitely generated modules over a Noetherian ring. They showed the formula \(\mathrm{depth}\, M +\mathrm{Gdim}\, M=\mathrm{depth}\, R\) for a finitely generated \(R\)-module \(M\) of finite Gorenstein dimension over a Noetherian local ring \(R\). After this, \textit{E.\ E.\ Enochs} and \textit{O.\ M.\ G.\ Jenda} [Math.\ Z.\ 220, No.\ 4, 611--633 (1995; Zbl 0845.16005)] generalized the theory of Gorenstein dimension for modules over arbitrary rings. However, the generalization of Auslander-Bridger formula was not established. The authors consider the restricted G-class, the Gorenstein dimension and the restricted Gorenstein dimension \(\tilde{\mathrm G} \mathrm{dim}\) for modules. If ring \(R\) is coherent and \(M\) is a finitely presented \(R\)-module, then \(\mathrm{Gdim}\, M =\tilde{\mathrm G} \mathrm{dim}\, M\). They develop the theory of this restricted G-class similar to the existing one for usual G-class. In particular, they prove the generalization of Auslander-Bridger formula \(\mathrm{depth}\, M +\tilde{\mathrm G} \mathrm{dim}\, M=\mathrm{depth}\, R\) for an \(R\)-module \(M\) of finite restricted Gorenstein dimension over a quasi-local ring \(R\). They also show that coherent Gorenstein ring is locally Cohen-Macaulay ring.
