From the authors' introduction: ``We consider the optimal control problem with quadratic functionals for a fluid-structure interaction model. Of major concern is the well-posedness of the Riccati equation arising in the minimization problem, along with the feedback synthesis of the (unique) optimal control. The fluid-structure interaction is modeled by a system of coupled partial differentail equations (PDE) comprising a Stokes system (the fluid) and a three dimensional system of dynamic elasticity (the solid). The coupling occurs at the interface separating the two regions occupied, respectivley, by the fluid and the solid. [\dots] Our main goal is to establish the validity of a Riccati theory that would allow to control the structure, via boundary controls, acting as forces applied to the interface.'' In particular, in the present paper, the authors make some important improvements to previous results for this kind of fluid-structure interaction, which comprises a parabolic and hyperbolic PDE. Indeed, they analyze the case with general quadratic functionals which include critical penalization of the mechanical variables. Their main theorem establishes the novel, distinct boundary regularity properties (of the solutions to the PDE system) which result in solvability of the optimization problem. Also, the results in this paper seem to confirm that the theory developed in [\textit{P. Acquistapace, F. Bucci} and \textit{I. Lasiecka}, Adv. Differ. Equ. 10, No. 12, 1389--1346 (2005; Zbl 1135.49022)] encompasses widely differing PDE problems.
