Let \(X\) be a complex manifold and let \(\rho:X\longrightarrow(a,b)\subset\overline{\mathbb R}\) be a \textit{\(1\)-corona}, i.e., a strictly plurisubharmonic \(\mathcal C^\infty\) function such that the sets \(\{\alpha\leq\rho\leq\beta\}\), \(a<\alpha<\beta<b\), are compact. The main result of the paper says that \(\rho\) can be compactified at the concave end (i.e., \(X\) is an open set of a Stein space \(\widehat X\) such that the sets \((\widehat X\setminus X)\cup\{a<\rho\leq c\}\), \(a<c<b\), are compact) iff \(H^1(X)\) is Hausdorff (i.e., the space of exact \(\mathcal C^\infty_{0,1}\)-forms on \(X\) is closed with respect to the \(\mathcal C^\infty\)-topology).
