It is known that the problem of finding brake orbits in a Hamiltonian system is equivalent to finding orthogonal geodesic chords on a manifold with concave boundary (these are geodesics whose endpoints lie in the boundary and are orthogonal to it there). The authors here prove the existence of an orthogonal geodesic chord for a manifold with concave boundary that is homeomorphic to a disk. This forms another approach to studying the Seifert conjecture concerning the number of brake orbits.
