An \(\ell \)-group is a group with a compatible lattice order. An \(\ell \)-group is said to be Archimedean if every nontrivial subgroup generated by an element is not upper bounded. An Archimedean \(\ell\)-group is called \(epicomplete\) (or universally \(\sigma\)-complete, or sequentially inextensible) if it is divisible, \(\sigma \)-complete and laterally \(\sigma\)-complete. For epicomplete Archimedean lattice-ordered groups \(G\) with weak order unit, various characterizations are known. The paper under review gives a \textit{J-representation} of such \(G\) which have no weak order unit. The authors also study the converse question: whether every epicomplete \(G\) has such a representation.
