The author looks at algebraic-geometric codes arising from vector bundles over a finite field. In particular, his investigation focuses upon those bundles constructed via finite coverings of the curve over a finite field. The main result provides conditions for the existence of weakly stable bundles of certain rank and degree having a specified dimension and minimum distance, from which the code generated can be used to correct a fixed number of errors.
