    Let \(\phi\) be an analytic self-map of the unit disk \(\mathbb{D}\) in the complex plane. Such a map induces a linear composition operator \[ C_{\phi}: H(\mathbb{D}) \to H(\mathbb{D}), \;f \mapsto f \circ \phi. \] This class of operators has been investigated by many authors in different settings since they appear naturally in several problems and link classical results in complex analysis with basic operator theoretical questions. Combination with a multiplication operator gives the weighted composition operator \[ C_{\phi,\psi}: H(\mathbb{D}) \to H(\mathbb{D}), \;f \mapsto \psi (f \circ \phi). \] The authors analyze boundedness, compactness and Schatten class membership of such operators acting on the classical Hardy space \[ H^2 = \left \{ f \in H(\mathbb{D}) \: \|f\|_2= \left ( \sup_{0 \leq r < 1} \int_0^{2 \pi} |f(r e^{i \Theta})|^2 \; \frac{d \Theta}{2 \pi} \right )^{\frac{1}{2}} < \infty \right \} \] using results of Harper and Smith ([\textit{Z. Harper}, Integral Equations Oper. Theory 54, No. 1, 69--88 (2006; Zbl 1102.47017)] and [\textit{Z. Harper} and \textit{M. P. Smith}, J. Oper. Theory 55, No. 2, 349--371 (2006; Zbl 1117.47017)]). Moreover, results concerning the boundedness of weighted composition operators \(C_{\phi,\psi}\) on the classical Bergman space which are due to Harper and Smith are extended to the setting of weighted Bergman spaces \[ A_{\alpha}^2=\left \{ f \in H(\mathbb{D}) \: \|f\|_{A_{\alpha}^2}= \left ( \frac{1}{\pi} \int_{\mathbb{D}} |f(z)|^2 (1-|z|^2)^{\alpha} \; d A(z) \right )^{\frac{1}{2}} < \infty \right \}. \]
