Let \(p\equiv 3\pmod 4\) be a prime number, \(n\geq 3\) an odd integer, \(d=\frac{p^n+1}{p+1}-\frac{p^n-1}{2} \), \(\gamma\in {\mathbb F}_{p^n}^* \). The authors determine the value distribution of the exponential sum \[ \sum_{x\in {\mathbb F}_{p^n}^*}\omega^{\text{Tr}_{{\mathbb F}_{p^n}/{\mathbb F}_p}(x-\gamma x^d)}, \] \(\omega\) a primitive complex \(p\)-th root of unity. This improves the results of \textit{E. N. Müller} [IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory 45, 289--295 (1999; Zbl 0947.94015)] and \textit{Z. Hu} et al. [Appl. Algebra Eng. Commun. Comput. 12, No. 3, 255--263 (2001; Zbl 1015.94006)] about the crosscorrelation of sequences with the decimation factor \(d\).
