Let \({\mathcal L}(X)\) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on an infinite-dimensional Banach space \(X\). For an operator \(T\in{\mathcal L}(X)\), the minimum modulus and the surjectivity modulus are given, respectively, by \[ \text m(T)=\inf\{ \| Tx\|:\| x\|=1\}\text{ and }\text q(T)=\inf\{\epsilon\geq0:\epsilon B_X\subset T(B_X)\}, \] where \(B_X\) denotes the closed unit ball of \(X\). In [Oper.\ Matrices 4, No.\,4, 511--518 (2010; Zbl 1215.47029)], \textit{M.\,Mbekhta} showed that a surjective unital map \(\phi\) on the algebra \({\mathcal L}(H)\) of all bounded linear operators on an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space \(H\) preserves either the minimum modulus or the surjectivity modulus if and only if there exists a unitary operator \(U\in {\mathcal L}(H)\) such that \(\phi(T)=UTU^*\) for all \(T\in{\mathcal L}(H)\). This result has been independently extended by several authors to different settings. In [\textit{M.\,Bendaoud}, Arch.\ Math.\ 92, No.\,3, 257--265 (2009; Zbl 1207.47034) and \textit{H.\,Skhiri}, J.~Math.\ Anal.\ Appl.\ 358, No.\,2, 320--326 (2009; Zbl 1165.47025)], the complete description of surjective linear or additive maps (not assumed unital) on \({\mathcal L}(H)\) preserving the minimum and surjectivity moduli was given. While in [\textit{A.\,Bourhim} and \textit{M.\,Burgos}, Oper.\ Matrices 4, No.\,2, 245--256 (2010; Zbl 1200.47048)], the problem of describing linear maps on \(C^*\)-algebras preserving the minimum and surjectivity moduli was initiated, it was continued in [\textit{A.\,Bourhim, M.\,Burgos} and \textit{V.\,S.\thinspace Shulman}, J.~Funct.\ Anal.\ 258, No.\,1, 50--66 (2010; Zbl 1187.47028)], where it was shown, in particular, that a surjective linear map \(\phi\) between \(C^*\)-algebras preserves the minimum and surjectivity moduli if and only if \(\phi\) is an isometric Jordan \(*\)-isomorphism multiplied by a unitary element of the target algebra. The present author extends Mbekhta's result to the Banach space setting. If there exists a semi-invertible but non-invertible operator in \({\mathcal L}(X)\), then, given a surjective unital linear map \(\phi : {\mathcal L}(X) \rightarrow {\mathcal L}(X)\), he proves that \(\text m(T) = \text m(\phi (T))\) for all \(T\in {\mathcal L}(X)\) if and only if \(\text q(T) = \text q(\phi (T))\) for all \(T\in {\mathcal L}(X)\) if and only if there exists a bijective isometry \(U\in {\mathcal L}(X)\) such that \(\phi (T)=UTU ^{ - 1}\) for all \(T\in {\mathcal L}(X)\). A strong version of this result has been independently established in the setting of two different Banach spaces where \(\phi\) is assumed not necessarily unital, and additive instead of linear; see [\textit{A.\,Bourhim}, ``Additive maps preserving the reduced minimum modulus of Banach space operators'', J.~Operator Theory, to appear (\url{arXiv:0910.0283v1})] and [\textit{M.\,Mbekhta} and \textit{M.\,Oudghiri}, ``Additive mappings preserving minimum and surjectivity moduli'', Acta Sci.\ Math.\ (Szeged) 76, No.\,1--2, 207--215 (2010)].
