On semi-uniform Kadec-Klee Banach spaces (Q610872): Difference between revisions

Summary: Inspired by the concept of \(U\)-spaces introduced by \textit{K.-S.\thinspace Lau} [J.~Approximation Theory 23, 29--36 (1978; Zbl 0399.41026)], we introduce the class of semi-uniform Kadec-Klee spaces, which is a uniform version of semi-Kadec-Klee spaces studied by \textit{L.\,P.\thinspace Vlasov} [Math.\ Notes 11, 87--92 (1972); translation from Mat.\ Zametki 11, 135--144 (1972; Zbl 0251.41019)]. This class of spaces is a wider subclass of spaces with weak normal structure and hence generalizes many known results in the literature. We give a characterization for a certain direct sum of Banach spaces to be semi-uniform Kadec-Klee and use this result to construct a semi-uniform Kadec-Klee space which is not uniform Kadec-Klee. At the end of the paper, we give a remark concerning the uniformly alternative convexity or smoothness introduced by \textit{V.\,M.\thinspace Kadets} et al.\ [C.\ R.\ Acad.\ Sci., Paris, Sér.\ I, Math.\ 325, No.\,12, 1291--1294 (1997; Zbl 0914.46022)].
