A review on known characterizations of EP-matrices is given. A matrix \(A \in {\mathbb C}^{m \times m}\) is said to be EP (or range-Hermitian) if \(A\) and its conjugate transpose \(A^*\) have the same range. Some new identifying conditions for a matrix \(A\) to be EP are given. Then, a weighted-EP matrix is defined and some necessary and sufficient conditions for a matrix \(A\) to be weighted-EP are derived. When deriving various new characterizations of weighted-EP matrices an algebraic method, referred here as the matrix rank method, is used.
