Suppose that \(X\) is a smooth projective variety of dimension \(n\), let \(E\) be a vector bundle of rank \(e > 1\) generated by sections, and let \(L\) be an ample line bundle on \(X\) and \(v\) a positive integer. The author then shows several vanishing theorems for these objects (some with additional assumptions and stronger conclusions). The first of these is that \(H^{p,q}(X, S^{v} E \otimes L) = 0\) whenever \(p+ q - n > (e - 1) \min(v, n -q)\). The author points out that this is a generalization of a vanishing theorem of \textit{T. Peternell, J. Le Potier} and \textit{M. Schneider} in Theorems 2.2 and 2.3 of [Invent. Math. 87, 573--586 (1987; Zbl 0618.14023)]. As an application of these vanishing theorems, the author obtains non-vanishing results also generalizing results of Peternell-Le Potier-Schneider. Another application is vanishing theorems of Barth-Lefschetz type.
