Arithmetics in number systems with a negative base (Q627186): Difference between revisions

\textit{S. Ito} and \textit{T. Sadahiro} [Integers 9, 239--259 (2009; Zbl 1191.11005)] considered representations of real numbers in the form \(x=\sum_{-\infty}^k x_i(-\beta)^i\), where \(\beta>1\) is fixed, the digits \(x_i\) are integers of the interval \([0,\lfloor\beta\rfloor]\), and \(k=k(x)\) is an integer. The authors study the sets \(\text{Fin}(-\beta)\), consisting of reals with finite \((-\beta)\)-expansions, and \(Z_\beta=\{x:\;k(x)=0\}\), and determine, in particular, for which PV-number \(\beta\) the set \(\text{Fin}(-\beta)\) forms a ring, confirming a conjecture of S. Ito and T. Sadahiro.
