In the late 1990's Vogan conjectured that Dirac cohomology describes infinitesimal characters of Harish-Chandra modules. This conjecture was proved by Huang and Pandžić in 2002, and extended and proved by Kostant in 2003 in the context of cubic Dirac operators. It turned out that Dirac cohomology is closely related to other cohomologies, and therefore it is important to know when Dirac cohomology does not vanish. One of the issues that the paper under review deals with is the nonvanishing of Dirac cohomology under the Jacquet functor. More precisely, let \(G\) be a real reductive Lie group in the Harish-Chandra class and \(K\) a maximal compact subgroup of \(G\). Let \(\theta\) be a Cartan involution of \(G\) whose set of fixed points coincides with \(K\) and \(\mathfrak{q}=\mathfrak{l}+\mathfrak{n}\) be a \(\theta\)-stable parabolic subalgebra of the complexified Lie algebra \(\mathfrak{g}\) of \(G\). Suppose \(L\) is a closed \(\theta\)-stable subgroup of \(G\) with complexified Lie algebra \(\mathfrak{l}\), the Levi factor of \(\mathfrak{q}\). Let \(V\) be a Harish-Chandra \((\mathfrak{g},K)\)-module and \(V^{\star}\) its algebraic dual. Then the Jacquet module associated with \(V\) is the \((\mathfrak{l},L\cap K)\)-module \(J(V)\) of \(L\cap K\)-finite vectors in the \({\mathcal U}(\mathfrak{g})\)-submodule \(V^{[\mathfrak{n}]}\) of \(V^{\star}\), where \(V^{[\mathfrak{n}]}=\{w\in V^{\star}\mid\exists k>0:\mathfrak{n}^{k}w=0\}\). One of the main results proved in the paper under review is that the Dirac cohomology of \(J(V)\) is a finitely generated admissible \((\mathfrak{l},L\cap K)\)-module and is nonzero whenever \(V\) is nontrivial. Another result provides an explicit formula for the Dirac cohomology of the Jacquet module of principal series representations.
