The authors consider the seawater intrusion problem. Its is a nonlinear coupled system of PDE with initial boundary condition. This system consists of the water head equation and the salt concentration equation. A combined method is developed to approximate the water head equation by mixed FE method and concentration equation by discontinuous Galerkin method. An optimal order estimate for the error in \({\mathcal H}'\)-norm and \({\mathcal L}^2\)-norm is obtained.
