For odd primes \(p\) and \(q\) with \(q-p=2\), and \(D= D_1\cdots D_n\) a square-free integer with distinct odd primes \(D_1,\dots, D_n\) and \((pq,D)= 1\), let \(E= E_\varepsilon\) (\(\varepsilon=\pm 1)\) be the elliptic curve, \(y^2= x(x+\varepsilon pD)(x+\varepsilon qD)\). The authors perform a standard 2-descent to compute the Selmer group \(S^{(2)}(E/\mathbb Q)\). They show, in particular, that the Selmer groups of several families of such elliptic curves can be arbitrary large.
