The authors introduce multichain generalizations of the Hibi ideal corresponding to a finite poset. Their first result is the computation of the minimal set of monomial generators of the Alexander duals of such ideals, showing that these generators correspond to chains in the lattice of order ideals of the poset. They then show that all powers of such ideals are weakly polymatroidal, and thus have linear quotients (via the work of Hibi and Kokubo). After resolving these ideals by computing their linear quotients and applying a mapping cone argument, the authors study the more complicated case of the toric counterparts to their ideals. Their main result in this case is the computation of quadratic Gröbner bases for these ideals. In finding a quadratic Gröbner basis in the more general toric case, the authors employ Sturmfels' sortability criterion.
