In a previous paper of the authors [Physica D 238, No. 9--10, 860--879 (2009; Zbl 1173.37056), \url{arXiv:0810.4499}] there was derived and justified the coupled mode equations for the stationary 2D Gross-Pitaevskii equation with a non-separable periodic potential and proved the existence of gap solutions. The key technique was to consider the problem in Bloch variables. Due to a wrong transfer of the main ansatz from the physical space to the Bloch wave space, there appeared some wrong or at least misleading formulas. The aim of this Erratum is to correct the ansatz and outline the subsequent changes in the analysis of the previous paper. Some minor errors and inconsistencies have been removed and the main characteristics of the ansatz are emphasized. The main issue was the inclusion of a sum-factor in the ansatz. Then, as a consequence, the subsequent updates in the formal derivation of the coupled mode equations have been performed. All the corrections are incorporated also in the arXiv version of this paper.
