Explicit criteria are available for a probability measure on \(\mathbb R^d\) such that the form \[ \mathcal E_i(f):= \int_{\mathbb R^d} (\partial_i f)^2 \;d\mu \] is closable. An interesting question is whether the closability of \(\mathcal E_i\) also implies that of the gradient form \[ \mathcal E(f):=\int_{\mathbb R^d} |\nabla f|^2\;d\mu. \] In this paper, it is claimed that for \(d=2\) there exists \(\mu\) such that \(\mathcal E_1\) is closbale, but \(\mathcal E\) is not. New sufficient conditions for the Mosco convergence of gradient quadratic forms on \(\mathbb R^d\) are also presented.
