A \(\cap\)-semigroup is a semigroup of partial transformations of a set \(A\) which is closed under set-theoretic intersection. Considered up to isomorphism, such structures form a variety of universal algebras. There are three natural relations on a \(\cap\)-semigroup: set inclusion, domain inclusion, and range of the first component inclusion in the domain of the second component (semiadjacency). Improving partly on earlier works along similar lines, the paper provides abstract characterizations of such structures in terms of elementary axioms.
