Let \(F\) be a quadratic extension of \(\mathbb Q\), and \(p\) a prime which splits as \(u{\bar u}\) in \(F\). Denote by \(GU\) the group of unitary similitudes of signature \((1,n-1)\). Let further \(K\subset GU(\mathbb A^{p,\infty})\) be a compact open subgroup of the finite adele points of \(GU\) away from \(p\). Let \(\text{Sh}(K)\) be a unitary Shimura variety with complex points \[ \text{Sh}(K)(\mathbb C)\cong GU(\mathbb Q)\backslash GU(\mathbb A)/K\cdot K_p\cdot K_\infty. \] \(K_p\subset GU(\mathbb Q_p)\) denotes here the maximal compact, whereas \(K_\infty \subset GU(\mathbb R)\) is maximal compact modulo center. This Shimura variety has a \(p\)-integral model consisting of a moduli stack of \(n\)-dimensional polarized abelian varieties \(A\) with complex multiplication by field \(F.\) Over a \(p\)-complete ring the formal completion of \(A\) is decomposed by the complex multiplication \(\widehat {A}\cong \widehat {A}_u\oplus \widehat {A}_{\bar u}\). In their previous work [Topological automorphic forms, Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 958, i--xxiii, 1--132 (2010; Zbl 1210.55005)] the authors constructed a \(p\)-complete \(E_\infty\) spectrum \(\text{TAF}_{GU}(K)\) of topological automorphic forms that realizes the formal groups \(\widehat {A}_u\). In the current work the authors describe \(\text{TAF}_{GU}\) for \(GU\) of type \((1,1)\) and show that they are closely related to the spectrum TMF of topological automorphic forms. Homotopy groups of some of these spectra are also computed.
