Motivated by the study of polyharmonic elliptic equations, the authors examine the dynamics of an ODE of the type \[ u^{(2m)}=u|u|^{p-1}. \] They show that most of the solutions blow up in finite time, diverging to either \(\infty\) or \(-\infty\). In the phase-space \({\mathbb R}^{2m}\), the orbits of these two types of solutions are separated by a \((2m-1)\)-dimensional manifold. They also study, for some \(m\), the dynamics on this manifold which, in the second-order case, coincides with the stable manifold of the trivial equilibrium. They present some numerical simulations, and propose some interesting open problems.
