For a periodic orbit with algebraically simple Floquet multiplier 1, and with all nontrivial Floquet multipliers inside the unit circle, nearby orbits converge to the periodic one exponentially with asymptotic phase. This result is extended to a class of FDEs \(\dot z(t) = f(z_t)\) that includes equations with state-dependent delay. Typical techniques in this setting are the use of \(X := C^0([-R,0], \mathbb{R}^n)\) as well as of \(Y :=C^1([-R,0], \mathbb{R}^n)\), the solution manifold \(\mathcal{S}\), and conditions on extendability of Fréchet derivatives \(Df(\varphi)\) from \(L_c(Y, \mathbb{R}^n)\) to \(L_c(X, \mathbb{R}^n)\). It is proved that the monodromy operator \(M\) associated to the periodic solution \(x\), considered as an operator in \(X\), and the corresponding operator \(\widetilde{ M}\), considered as an operator in the tangent space \(T_{x_0}\mathcal{S}\), have the same spectrum. (This is a consequence of the smoothing action of the semiflow.) The usual relation between the derivative of the Poincaré return map and the monodromy operator is established, and the main convergence result is proved in two versions: 1) as an exponential estimate in \(\|\;\|_Y\) in terms of the \(\| \;\|_Y\)-difference of initial conditions; 2) under a Lipschitz condition on \(f\) with respect to \(\| \;\|_X\), as an exponential estimate in \(\|\;\|_Y\) in terms of the \(\| \;\|_X\)-difference of initial conditions.
