Natural and man-made systems are often governed by several dynamical models. The interchange between the modes is often determined by the time or is based on some environmental factors that are not predicted a priori. Such a system is called a switched system, which is a special kind of hybrid system that consists of a family of continuous-time dynamical systems and a rule called the switching signal (or law) to control the switching between the modes. An important qualitative property of such systems is stability. The challenge to analyze stability of switched systems lies partly in the fact that even if the individual systems are stable, the switched system might be unstable. Singularly perturbed systems occur in different fields such as power systems, large economies, and control systems. The stability of these systems has been investigated by several authors. The objective of the present paper is to establish exponential stability of singularly perturbed switched systems in the presence of time delay. The multiple Lyapunov technique and dwell time approach are used to establish stability criteria for a switched system consisting of both stable and unstable subsystems. Examples are presented to illustrate the criteria.
