The existence and uniqueness of solutions of the semilinear integro-differential equation with infinite delay \[ u'(t)=Au(t)+\alpha\int_{-\infty}^te^{-\beta(t-s)}Au(s)ds+f(t,u(t)) \] is obtained by using Banach's contraction principle in various function spaces, in particular in spaces of almost periodic, almost automorphic, asymptotically almost periodic/automorphic, and pseudo-almost periodic/automorphic functions. The main hypotheses are that \(f(\cdot,u)\) belongs to this space (uniformly for \(u\) in bounded sets), that \(f\) satisfies the somewhat restrictive Lipschitz condition \[ \left\| f(t,u)-f(t,v)\right\|\leq L(t)\left\| u-v\right\| \] where \(L\) is integrable over \(\mathbb R\) or at least over every \((-\infty,t]\), and that \(A\) is the generator of an immediately norm-continuous \(C_0\) semigroup satisfying the spectral condition \[ \sup\{\Re\lambda:\lambda(\lambda+\beta)/(\lambda+\alpha+\beta)\in \sigma(A)\}<0. \] As an example, it is shown that the latter holds with \(\alpha=\beta=1\) and the one-dimensional Laplacian in \(L^2[0,\pi]\) with Dirichlet boundary condition.
